The Right Snowboarding Helmet For You

Helmets are important when playing or trying out a number of sports. Sports that involve a risk of throwing off an athlete from a speeding car, motorcycle, snowboard, or ski require every athlete the use of a helmet. It is sad news indeed whenever one hears of an accident that could have been avoided if an athlete had a helmet worn in his head. Good thing that laws are now available requiring enthusiasts of such sports to wear helmets.

A snowboarding helmet is very different from the one used in motorcycles. It is less a drag to wear since snowboarding is done on a very cold terrain. But like the motorcycle helmet, the snowboarding helmet is also an item of fashion, which is why novice snowboarders are having a hard time choosing the right helmet to wear. To avoid such confusion, a snowboarder, initially, must see and compare helmets according to his or her personal styles or preferences.

There are many styles of snowboarding helmet available; the half helmet for the free-spirited, a racing helmet for the competitive skier, the full coverage helmet for full head coverage and function and the newer, vented helmet models for the temperature control-challenged. To be able to find the right size, a snowboarder only needs to measure his head with a tape measure with metric sizing.

A helmet must not create discomfort. It must not pinch and create hot or pressure points on the head. It must snug firmly and rest properly on the tip of the shoulders. Also, the eyewear or goggles must be comfortable to the touch inside the face opening and the ear wells align perfectly with the ears for effective reception of sound.

Most of the snowboarding helmet types available in the market today have different modifications such as having an adjustable venting where you can easily control your sight environment or a wicking liner for fast drying and a more secure closure system. Also, some snowboarding helmet models are becoming more integrated with goggle clips to prevent slippage. All these modifications, of course, command more cost for the helmet.
